A Strategic R&D Approach
At Ligand, our technology applies the most advanced cell-based assay and gene-expression tools to discover new and important medicines. Working with our academic collaborators and consultants, we concentrate our efforts on the following areas of research:
- Revolutionizing development of drug candidates from our Thrombopoietin (TPO) and Erythropoietin (EPO) program
- Expanding the therapeutic potential of Selective Glucocorticoid Receptor Modulators (SGRM) and Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARM)
- Advancing the understanding of the activities of hormones and hormone-related drugs
- Making scientific discoveries related to IR technology
The Power of IR Technology
Intracellular receptor (IR) technology is the result of our ground-breaking work in the field of gene transcription. Intracellular receptors are families of transcription factors that change cell function by selectively turning on or off specific genes in response to circulating signals that act on cells. Our ability to harness these processes through IR technology has enabled the development of novel, small-molecule drugs that act through intracellar receptors, potentially resulting in more targeted drugs with greater specificity than those currently available.
