Nav1.9

Nav1.9

Nav1.9 is expressed in small diameter nociceptive neurons and plays a role in pain perception. Mutations of the human Nav1.9 gene (SCN11A) are associated with  both decreases and increases in pain sensation, confirming a key role for this ion channel in human pain signaling. Ligand has developed a first-in-class high-throughput electrophysiological drug discovery platform to identify novel Nav1.9 inhibitors and has identified initial chemotypes which show concentration dependent inhibition of Nav1.9 sodium currents.
